75–85% SavingsVersus the cost of a full roof replacement

Most homeowners assume they only have two choices when a roof starts showing its age: spend $20,000 to $40,000 on a full tear-off replacement, or do nothing and hope for the best.

There is a third option that protects your home while saving you thousands. It all started with our own roof. While cleaning out our gutters, we noticed a heavy buildup of thick, sludge-like grit—a telltale sign that asphalt shingles are losing their protective granules and deteriorating. Wanting a lasting fix without the massive price tag of a total replacement, we discovered Gonano's roof rejuvenation technology.

Today, as the only certified Gonano dealer in the East Kootenay, we bring that same proven, money-saving solution to our neighbours throughout the region.

The NuRoof System

What We Offer

Not every roof needs the same treatment—Gonano's NuRoof system is matched to your roof's age and condition, so you're only paying for what your shingles actually need.

Three NuRoof product drums: Fortify, Revive, and Bio Boost.
NuRoof Fortify For newer roofs (under 5 years)

Your shingles are still in great shape, so Fortify works preventively—slowing the aging process before it starts and boosting resistance to hail, wind, and UV so your roof stays strong for years to come.

Up to 15-year transferable warranty
NuRoof Revive For established roofs (6–20 years)

The most common treatment. This is the stage where brittleness, curling, and granule loss start to show. Revive penetrates the shingle to restore flexibility and lock in the granules that are still there.

Up to 10-year transferable warranty
NuRoof Boost For older roofs (10+ years)

A cost-effective option for roofs showing more advanced signs of age but still structurally sound. Boost extends your roof's functional life, buying you extra years before replacement becomes necessary.

Up to 5-year warranty

Not sure which category your roof falls into? That's exactly what the free assessment is for. Warranty length can vary based on the actual condition of your roof at time of installation—your assessment will confirm exactly what applies to you.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions About Roof Rejuvenation

What are early signs that my asphalt shingles are deteriorating?

One of the clearest signs of roof damage shows up in your gutters, and at the exit point of your downspouts. When you clean out the gutters, you might notice a layer of thick, sludge-like grit sitting at the bottom—or spot that same grit collecting on your deck or in the grass below. Those are shingle granules, washed down as your roof ages.

A little grit is normal, especially on a newer roof, but a heavy buildup like that is one of the clearest signals your shingles are wearing thin, often well before you'd notice anything from the ground. Other signs to watch for include fading colour, curling or lifting edges, a subtle shimmer in the sunlight around the shingle edges, and bald or thin spots where granules have worn away. If any of this sounds familiar, it's worth booking a free assessment before the wear gets worse.

How soon should I treat my roof—do I have to wait until it's showing extensive damage?

Earlier is better. It's a common assumption that this treatment is only for older, visibly worn roofs. It's actually the opposite. Applied to a roof that's still in good shape, NuRoof slows the aging process before it starts, so you're keeping a good roof good rather than trying to bring back one that's already declined.

"We can't put the granules back once they're gone, but we can lock in the ones that are still there, and strengthen the shingle at the same time." — Jeff

Third-party certified testing shows a mid-life treated shingle can outperform a brand new, untreated one, with improved wind and impact resistance. That's why timing matters: a newer roof still has more of its original granules and material intact, so treating it early locks in more of that strength and adds more good years than waiting until the roof already shows wear.

What type of roofing does Gonano technology cover?

This treatment is designed specifically for asphalt shingle roofs and asphalt-based elastomer membranes. If your home has metal, tile, or another roofing material, this service won't apply to your roof.

Diagram showing asphalt pore sizing and the difference between Gonano and traditional sealants like silicone and acrylic.

Unlike surface-level sealants such as silicone and acrylic, Gonano's engineered particles are small enough to move into a shingle's pores, helping protect the material from within.

How does the Gonano treatment actually work on my shingles?

Asphalt shingles start out flexible due to natural oils within the asphalt. Over time, intense summer UV radiation and harsh Kootenay freeze-thaw cycles evaporate these oils, leaving shingles dry, brittle, and prone to cracking.

Gonano's technology uses microscopic nanoparticles suspended in a natural bio-oil medium—making it completely safe for surrounding plants, animals, and the environment. Because these particles are microscopic, they absorb deep inside the shingle rather than coating the top. Rigorous third-party certified testing has verified that Gonano nanoparticles chemically react with the internal asphalt matrix to form new molecular bonds. The shingle regains its original flexibility, sheds water effortlessly, and locks its granules tightly in place.

Isn't this just a spray-on coating or sealant?

No. A coating sits on top of your shingles like paint, and over time it cracks and peels because it's never actually part of the shingle.

Third-party certified testing shows Gonano's particles absorb into the shingle and bond from within, so there's nothing on the surface to wear off. The shingle itself gets stronger and more weather resistant, from the inside out.

The left side of this demo board is treated with Gonano, restored to a deep, rich tone and noticeably hydrophobic, so water beads and rolls off rather than soaking in. Want deeper science? You can read more on Gonano's website.

How will Gonano treatment change the appearance of my shingles?

Most homeowners notice their roof looks better right away. Since Gonano works from inside the shingle rather than adding a coating on top, there's no shiny film or plastic look—just the shingle itself, restored.

Third-party certified testing shows the treatment helps regenerate some of the shingle's original colour, so a faded, sun-bleached roof typically comes back darker and richer, closer to how it looked when it was new. See more before-and-after results from real Cranbrook roofs in the gallery.

Will overspray during application damage my car, lawn, or plants?

No. NuRoof is formulated with natural bio-oils, so overspray on plants, grass, or your driveway isn't something to worry about. It won't harm them. The team does cover or move anything that can't easily be cleaned or that's fixed in place, like a deck, but they don't tarp the whole yard, since it isn't necessary.

If it puts your mind at ease, feel free to move anything you're extra particular about, like patio furniture or a vehicle usually parked close to the house, out of the way before application day. It's also worth closing your windows on treatment day—the product has a mild smell while it's being applied, and it's not one you'll want lingering inside.

How does the treatment stand up to the Kootenay climate?

Kootenay winters and summers both take a toll on asphalt shingles. Freeze-thaw cycles work moisture into small cracks all winter long, while intense summer UV dries shingles out and speeds up aging. Left untreated, this combination shortens a roof's lifespan faster than most homeowners realize.

Gonano's testing shows the treatment seals these microfissures against freeze damage and reflects UV rays to reduce heat absorption—giving shingles the extra durability they need to hold up through both seasons, year after year.

How is roof rejuvenation different from a full roof replacement?

A full replacement means tearing off your existing shingles and starting over—new underlayment, new shingles, and the cost and disruption that comes with it. Roof rejuvenation works with the roof you already have.

We apply Gonano's NuRoof treatment, which bonds within the shingle itself rather than sitting on top of it, restoring flexibility and adding protection from the inside out. For roofs that qualify, this means real warranty coverage—up to 15 years depending on your roof's age and condition—at a fraction of the cost and disruption of tearing off and starting new.

Why not just use a DIY roof sealant instead?

Store-bought sealants and coatings sit on top of your shingles, similar to a coat of paint on drywall. They can look fine for a season or two, but they don't change what's happening inside the shingle, and they tend to wear off under the same sun and weather that aged your roof in the first place.

Gonano's NuRoof treatment works differently—it penetrates into the shingle and bonds at a molecular level, which is why it isn't classified as a coating at all.

There's also the warranty. As the only certified Gonano dealer in the East Kootenay, our applications follow manufacturer specifications and come with real warranty coverage. A DIY product doesn't carry that backing, and in some cases can even affect your existing shingle manufacturer's warranty. NuRoof itself is documented safe on that front—Gonano has confirmed compatibility with a number of major shingle manufacturers, so applying it doesn't put your existing manufacturer's warranty at risk.

How is Gonano different from other roof rejuvenation products?

Not all rejuvenation products work the same way, and the differences matter. Gonano's NuRoof is a patented nano-silica formula, applied straight from the manufacturer's can. Nothing is mixed on site, so there's no room for a technician to get the ratio wrong. Many other rejuvenation products are mixed with water on the job, or rely on oil alone, which mainly re-hydrates an aging shingle rather than strengthening it at a molecular level.

Most competing products are also built for one job: slowing down a shingle that's already declining, typically with a maximum life extension of around five years. NuRoof is the only system designed to work at every stage, from keeping a new roof new, to reviving a mid-life roof, to extending the life of an older one, because it changes the shingle's actual structure rather than just adding moisture back.

What happens if I just wait and put this off?

It's tempting to leave it alone if the roof isn't leaking yet. But asphalt shingles don't usually fail all at once—they dry out, lose granules, and get brittle over time, and once that's gone far enough, treatment can't reverse it. Replacement becomes the only option left.

Waiting also tends to cost more than people expect. A small issue left alone can turn into water damage, and insurance doesn't always cover damage traced back to a roof that wasn't maintained. Catching an aging roof while it still qualifies for treatment is usually the more affordable path. Our roof assessment itself is free, so there's no cost to finding out where your roof stands.

Do insurance companies care about the condition of my roof?

More and more, yes. Insurers are paying closer attention to roof condition when a claim comes in, and homeowners are increasingly expected to show they've kept up with maintenance.

A documented roof rejuvenation gives you something concrete to point to if a claim ever comes up: proof that your roof was inspected, treated, and in good condition. It's a smaller thing to deal with now than sorting out a denied or delayed claim later.

Does roof treatment matter if I'm buying or selling a home?

It can matter more than people expect. Realtors have described a bad roof inspection as "roof drama" for a reason: it can stall a sale or turn into a bargaining chip at the worst possible time.

If you're selling, having your roof treated ahead of listing gives buyers real peace of mind and can make your home more appealing without the cost of a full replacement. If you're buying, asking the seller to include treatment as part of the deal takes the guesswork out of what condition the roof is actually in.

Drone flying over a roof to assess it.
What happens during my free roof assessment?

The assessment process is thorough, transparent, and completely free. If you're not sure whether your roof needs repairs before it's treated, that's exactly what the assessment is for—you don't need to sort that out yourself first. We handle minor repairs as part of the process, and if something bigger is needed, we'll tell you plainly before moving ahead.

Pre-assessment measurement: Prior to visiting your property, we use satellite imagery and specialized measuring software to review your roof layout, pitch, and square footage, so we come prepared with accurate preliminary numbers.

High-definition drone flyover: On-site, we conduct a safe drone flyover to capture detailed, high-resolution photos of all slopes, peaks, valleys, vents, flashings, and gutter line buildup. If a closer look is needed anywhere, we'll go up on the roof directly rather than relying on the drone alone.

Real-time review & photo report: If you're home during the assessment, we walk you through the photos in real time and give you upfront pricing on the spot. If you're away, we email you a comprehensive digital photo report and quote.

Live material demonstration: We bring actual treated vs. untreated shingle samples and demo boards directly to your assessment so you can see, feel, and test the flexibility difference firsthand.

Most assessments are scheduled within a few days of your request. There is zero pressure and zero obligation. If your roof is past the point of saving and doesn't qualify for treatment, we'll tell you honestly.

What happens on treatment day? Do I need to do anything to prepare?

Treatment day is simple, quiet, and completed quickly (usually in just a single day):

Prep & small repairs: We perform an initial walk-around, securing any loose shingles or lifted flashings before application begins.

Property protection: We cover or move anything fixed in place nearby, like a deck, to protect against drift. Because Gonano is formulated with natural bio-oils, overspray is non-toxic to plants, lawns, and animals, so tarping the whole yard isn't necessary.

Clean application: We apply the treatment using a low-pressure spray system.

Zero disruption: You don't need to leave your home during application, there are no heavy dumpsters in your driveway, and no interior attic access is required.

We monitor local forecasts closely to ensure a completely dry window for proper curing. We also maintain a flexible booking schedule (typically booking 2–3 weeks out) and offer priority scheduling for time-sensitive situations like active real estate sales.

How do I know this actually works? Do you have real, local examples?

Better to show you than tell you. Head to the gallery to drag the before-and-after sliders on real Cranbrook roofs. At your assessment, we'll also bring along treated and untreated demo boards so you can see—and feel—the difference in flexibility and texture for yourself before you commit to anything.

Split aerial before-and-after comparison of a treated shingle roof.

For example, one customer had a 15-year-old roof on her Cranbrook home that was already in good shape and just wanted peace of mind. One treatment gave her another 15 years of coverage, no mess and no disruption. A homeowner whose roof was already 18 years old told us this after her treatment:

"Jeff was professional, punctual, and incredibly efficient from start to finish. He took great care to protect the surrounding area while working, and the entire project was completed with attention to detail and pride in his work... We're very pleased with the results!"

What's covered under the Gonano product warranty?
A man climbing a ladder and taking measurements with the Gonano truck in the background.

Every treatment comes with a formal, written warranty from Gonano, honoured through Key City Surface Solutions. Depending on your roof's condition and the treatment applied, coverage runs anywhere from 5 to 15 years, and it's transferable if you sell your home during that window.

The main thing that keeps your Gonano warranty valid is having the work done by a certified Gonano contractor, which is why we're proud to be the only one in the East Kootenay region.

Beyond that, it's mostly common sense: keep up with normal roof upkeep like clearing your gutters, and know that severe storms or other acts of nature outside the treatment's control aren't part of the coverage. We take care of the warranty registration paperwork, and if you sell your home, we'll help make sure the coverage transfers smoothly to the new owner.

How much does treatment cost compared to a full roof replacement?

Significantly less. Most homeowners save in the 75 to 85% range versus a full replacement, because treatment restores your existing shingles rather than tearing them off and rebuilding. Every roof is different, so the exact price comes down to size and condition.

We've laid out real numbers and financing options on our payment page.

Do you offer financing if I can't pay everything upfront?

Yes. We offer flexible payment plans, including monthly financing starting as low as $149/month, so you don't have to choose between protecting your roof now and paying for it later. Full plan details and payment options are on our financing page.

Who Is the Key City Team?

Jeff and Crystal Dyck are your neighbours here in Cranbrook. We started Key City Surface Solutions after noticing granule loss on our own roof and getting sticker shock from replacement quotes—so when we found Gonano's technology and saw what it did for our own home, we became the first and only certified Gonano dealer in the East Kootenay.

We're not a franchise or a call centre—when you call, you get the owners directly. We live here, raise our family here, and our reputation in this community means everything to us. If a roof isn't a good candidate for treatment, we'll say so rather than recommend a service that isn't needed.
